7 - Diaspora Collaboration and Knowledge Production in Africa: Reflections on Caveats and Opportunities

Irrespective of its conceptualisation, diaspora contributes to the development homelands through diverse forms collaboration. The increase in remittances and involvement fostering democratic values are obvious examples. A new emphasis, however, is on developing African academia various partnership collaboration between diaspora-based African-based academics. number initiatives, funding opportunities research partnerships this effect emerging. Nevertheless, these complex do not always translate into win-win situations, especially for institutions academics global South. In article, I reflect some personal experiences collaborations as part an academic. so doing, three possible caveats maximising gains knowledge production highlighted. argue that while abound, ensuring a sustainable relationship demands careful introspection at every turn.
